Garage door opener FAQs
Only if the opener uses outdated fixed codes. Security+ 3.0TM rolling-code technology prevents signal capture.
Many modern garage door remotes are universal or compatible with a wide range of opener brands, so there’s a good chance we can find one that works with your system.
Compatibility can depend on factors like your opener’s age, frequency, and technology. If your opener isn’t supported, we can help identify a compatible remote, recommend an external receiver, or guide you toward the simplest upgrade so your garage door operates reliably and smoothly.
We offer multi-user access systems that can support large groups, including setups for up to 1,000 users in certain setups.
If you have several doors to operate, a 2-, 3- or 4-button remote (like the L992U or 894LT) lets you manage all of them with one device.
Depending on how many garage doors you have, remote controls with 1 to 3 buttons can operate up to three doors. If you’re replacing a remote or need an additional one, we’ll need the model number and serial number of your door opener. Not sure where to find it? We can show you how. If the model is unknown, we can also identify it using your remote.
If you have LiftMaster commercial door openers, it’s often possible to add remote transmitters depending on the year of manufacture. If your opener is a different brand, a compatible transmitter and receiver system can usually be added, allowing you to operate your commercial garage doors using remote controls.
If you have a LiftMaster, Chamberlain, or Mastercraft door opener, refer to the article How do I program my remote control? for step-by-step instructions.
If your vehicle is equipped with this system, visit homelink.com for instructions or contact your vehicle dealer for assistance.
Depending on the age of your garage door opener, you may need a 3-volt coin battery, a 9-volt rectangular battery, or a 12-volt cylindrical battery. If you’re unsure which battery model you require, we can help you identify the right one.
